Lake Wylie is a man-made lake located 13 miles Southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. Lake Wylie is the oldest lake in the Catawba River chain and was created in 1904 when a dam was constructed on the Catawba River near Fort Mill, South Carolina. The lake was later enlarged to its current size of 13,400 acres when the dam was rebuilt in 1924.
Lake Wylie residents benefit from a desirable location, moderate climate, superior school systems and a vibrant economy in Charlotte and other surrounding cities. Area attractions and recreation are plentiful: boating, fishing, water skiing, sailing, golf, tennis, hiking and other outdoor activities. For those looking for a weekend getaway, popular Carolina beaches and the Blue Ridge Mountains are only a three-hour drive.
