Lake Wylie

lake wylie home, lake wylie nc homeLake Wylie is a man-made lake located 13 miles Southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Lake Wylie is the oldest lake in the Catawba River chain and was created in 1904 when a dam was constructed on the Catawba River near Fort Mill, South Carolina.  The lake was later enlarged to its current size of 13,400 acres when the dam was rebuilt in 1924.

Lake Wylie’s 325 miles of shoreline serves as the local border between North Carolina and South Carolina.  Three counties surround the lake: Mecklenburg and Gaston Counties in North Carolina and York County in South Carolina. Nearby cities and townships include Charlotte, Belmont, Lake Wylie, Tega Cay, Fort Mill and Rock Hill.
